Do You Need to Shop, Shop, and Shop Some More?

The Lord detests the way of the wicked, but he loves those who pursue godliness. Proverbs 15:9 NLT

My sister Rebecca lives in Brooklyn, New York.  A few years ago she endeavored to find a church that she could call home: a place with fellowship, impactful services, and friendly people.  Her quest led her to a church that is a one-hour subway ride from her apartment, and that’s just one way.  The motivation and time it takes her to both attend services and participate in church events is more than many of us think we have. Yet she has diligently pursued her faith through this church for many years.

Rebecca is living out what God is calling all of us to do – pursing godliness despite the time and effort it takes.  The Bible does not say, “Sit still and I’ll drop godliness in your lap.”  Rather, it calls us to actively pursue holiness, even though that means waking up earlier than we would like on Sundays, taking time away from other activities to have one-on-one time with God, and having to shop, shop, and shop some more until we find a church home.

What steps towards godliness have you been putting off?
